Breakthrough in Scripture
One of the names of God is Baal-perazim – God of the breakthrough. This comes from the first battle that David faced after becoming king over all of Israel. The Philistines came to Jerusalem seeking the new king but with no good intentions:
Then David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.” So David came to Baal-perazim and defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore he named that place Baal-perazim. 2 Sam 5:19-20
When the waters break, the baby is about to pass through the birth canal. It is a breakthrough that births a new life. Israel and the Western countries are being harassed by the modern day Philistine spirit rattling sabres and coming against the Judeo-Christian foundations with false, idolatrous ideologies. This spirit is bent on destroying not only the Jews but also wiping out all traces of Christianity. According to its adherents, we have no right to exist. This anti-Christ spirit is also pervading the rest of the world in a bid for global domination.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord. Prov 21:31
David sought the Lord but still had to take his armies out to fight. God gave them the victory. He still needs foot soldiers today - we must play our part - but ultimately the battle belongs to the Lord. We have to join the battle, not remain silent like the church in Hitler’s day. Edmund Burke is alleged to have said: All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. We must be a voice for truth in a world of deception and reign with Christ to bring His kingdom purposes to pass.
The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the Lord at their head. Micah 2:13
The breaker in this Scripture refers to sheep, not horses. The shepherd guarded the sheep at night by sleeping across the entrance to the horseshoe-shaped sheepfold. The first sheep to break out in the morning was called the breaker. This Scripture says that the Lord goes before the breaker.
Surely this is what happened in World War I when, against impossible odds, 800 Light Horsemen charged the heavily-defended city of Beersheba, jumped the trenches and captured the city and its precious water wells.
Thousands of Australians, New Zealanders and British are going up for the 100th Anniversary of Beersheba and the Balfour declaration in October. We need a spiritual ANZAC breaker spirit – courage, mateship, sacrifice and endurance. Pray for a spiritual breakthrough in the Land as these spiritual warriors go forth with the Lord going before them at their head.
