Come to the Mountain of the Lord
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations...They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Is 2:3-4
The Messianic hope of both Jews and Gentiles is rooted in the promises that Jesus will one day return to earth and bring His righteous reign (Is 11:1-10, Jer 33:14-18, Dan 7:14, 26-27, Micah 4:1-4, Rev 19:11-16 etc). These are the prophecies that await their fulfilment. Every year at the Feast of Tabernacles, the Messianic greeting, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord’ (Ps 188:26) is proclaimed in the synagogues. Jesus will return to Jerusalem (Zech 14:4) when He is welcomed back with this greeting (Matt 23:37-39). The gospel must also be preached to every nation and the bride must be ready for her Bridegroom. God alone knows the time but the autumn festivals are associated with these events and indeed prophetically speak of them. Unlike today, at that time, the Lord’s justice will prevail and He will bring peace to Israel and all the earth.
When all the world’s embassies moved out of Jerusalem in 1980 in protest over Israel’s declaration of Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel, the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) moved in to represent Christians from the nations who saw in the Scriptures God’s eternal promise of land to Abraham and a latter-days return of the people from exile before His coming.
I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured... Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations...On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives...and the Mount of Olives will be split in two...The LORD will be king over the whole earth...Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. Zech 14:2-4,9,16
Prophetically, since the ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles celebrations were inaugurated, tens of thousands of pilgrims from the nations have come to worship in Jerusalem and learn from the Lord. As part of this celebration, the Jerusalem march is a highlight as the international delegates dress in national costumes and walk through the streets with flags and banners, showing their love and support for Israel (front cover and Page 1). Thousands of Jews line the streets and watch in amazement, with tears in their eyes, to see this demonstration of God’s love. The theme for this year captures a small glimpse of the nations coming to the mountain of the Lord.
